| Overview |
Southern Rails Cooperative Ltd. (SRCL), a shortline railway in southern Saskatchewan, was founded in 1989 as a farmer-owned cooperative. Located in Rockglen, Saskatchewan, with a subsequent head office relocation to Avonlea, Saskatchewan, SRCL provides shortline railway transportation services to its membership and the general rural population of southern Saskatchewan.
The SRCL connects with two Class I rail systems, CN at Moose Jaw and CP at Rockglen. CN’s Moose Jaw operation connects the shortlined Truax, Avonlea, Briercrest and Tilney Stations (44 miles of track) to the CN railway network, while CP’s Rockglen connection is with a producer car grain loading site. The SRCL places emphasis on maintaining a cost-effective rural transportation system by diverting grain traffic off the road systems of southern Saskatchewan.
Approximately 160 farmers who hold membership shares in the organization own SRCL. |
