Roberval & Saguenay Railway (RS)

| Overview |
The Roberval & Saguenay Railway (RS) was first chartered in 1908 by the Chemin de Fer Baie des Ha! Ha! to serve a pulp mill at Chicoutimi, Quebec, as the least expensive way to get pulp to market. Alcan acquired it when the pulp mill went out of business in 1925.
The Roberval & Saguenay currently operates 160 kilometres of track in Quebec between the harbour at Port Alfred and the Alcan plants in Arvida (near Jonquière), Grande Baie, Laterriere, and Alma. It also serves major paper companies in the area.
The major commodities that it carries are bauxite from the port, alumina, coke, chemicals, paper, forest products and aluminum.
The RS interchanges with CN in Jonquière and Saint-Bruno/Saguenay Power. |
